One of the best things about living on Hightop Mountain is the ever-changing views of each season. You can see some of these views taken from my front door in the Gallery section. I didn’t get the view from Thistle’s front door because I didn’t feel like climbing into the chicken coop.
Sometimes we get snowed in for a few days, but that’s OK because we stock our refrigerator well. And the snowed-in days sitting by the wood stove are some of the best for storytelling!
As you might expect, the mountain has plenty of critters — mammals as well as reptiles. You’ll also find some of these in the Gallery section.
One time Irie and Sage, my son’s collies, treed a mother bear and two of her cubs and barked at them for the entire night. It’s not always peace and quiet on the mountain. Anyway, the mama bear went to sleep and fell out of the tree, and the cubs came scampering down and followed her.
Irie and Sage aren’t the smartest dogs in the world, but at least they were smart enough to stay back from the cubs.
Maybe those bears will make it into one of my stories.
I have written a second Thistle story and hope to get it published one day, so please check into my blog from time to time. I hope you enjoy the site.
